IRS Launches Digitally Authenticated Tax Compliance Report

On August 20, 2026, the Internal Revenue Service announced a digitally authenticated Tax Compliance Report available through IRS Individual Online Accounts.
Taxpayers can securely obtain and download the report when applying for a job, a loan, a government benefit, or another service that requires tax compliance information.
Financial institutions, government agencies, and other organizations that receive the report can use its built-in digital certificate to confirm its authenticity. The certificate also helps protect taxpayer information and maintains the integrity of the report.
“By providing a secure, digitally authenticated report, the IRS is making it easier for taxpayers to access and share important information while protecting privacy and data integrity,” said IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano. He further elaborated about the key benefits, namely:
- Authenticated and secure: Each Tax Compliance Report includes an IRS-issued digital certificate that confirms its authenticity.
- Built-in verification: Verification features are embedded directly in the downloadable file.
- On-demand access: Taxpayers can access and download their report at any time through their IRS Individual Online Account.
- Standardized assurance: Each report includes the same authentication and verification features.
Unrelated to the above, but issued twenty days later on September 9, 2026, the IRS issued Tax Tip 2026-68 stating Taxpayers have the right to retain representation -- When working with the IRS, all taxpayers have the right to retain an authorized representative of their choice to act on their behalf. For taxpayers who can’t afford representation, they have the right to seek assistance from a Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic. The IRS noted this is one of the ten fundamental rights of all taxpayers in the Taxpayer Bill of Rights.
