Background:
A client came to us needing protection from an ex-boyfriend who wouldn’t take no for an answer. She broke up with him after he used her indoor pet camera to spy on her without her permission, then surveilled her at her home and chased her through a parking lot.
Challenges:
We received multiple recommendations from the judge that the boyfriend should agree to an order of protection, but he refused. In trial, his lawyer claimed that our client was the aggressor, which was false.
Result:
The judge found our client’s testimony credible and compelling. The judge told our client’s ex-boyfriend that he needed to accept that the relationship was over, and he should have stopped contacting her long ago. He issued a one-year Order of Protection that bars him from contacting her by any means.
